Uncover early signs of reading, learning, or attentional problems or behavioural issues and prevent years of fear and tears.  Research has shown that catching learning problems before formal schooling could prevent years of delayed learning, school anxiety, behavioural problems at home, and low self-esteem.  This assessment is designed for children 3-5 years of age to determine their readiness for school.  In order to be eligible for this assessment, 3 year olds should be born between September and December and starting school in September.

Information for Early Identification

Early diagnosis of reading difficulties is crucial to improving outcomes for children with these difficulties. Children with a family history of reading difficulties are at a higher risk of developing reading difficulties themselves compared to those without a family history. Children with dyslexia often struggle in school, which can lead to feelings of frustration and low self-worth, potentially impacting their long-term well-being. Identification methods are sensitive enough to detect all children at risk of developing reading difficulties, as the consequences of missing children at risk are severe and long-lasting. Reading is a complex skill that requires a wide range of knowledge and skills, and reading abilities vary along a spectrum. Children's abilities develop rapidly due to both maturation and education, and different identification methods are more sensitive at different stages of development. Therefore, it is particularly crucial during the preschool years for parents to be aware of dyslexia and how it affects their children to ensure their sustainable growth through early identification.

Only 2% of children are identified with math difficulties in Grade 1, but up to a 14% math learning difficulties are identified by Grade 8. This means that many kids who would benefit from interventions don't get it because they were not identified.
