Therapeutic Assessment
Therapeutic Assessment (TA) is a family-based evaluation that combines a formal assessment and therapeutic intervention. TA aims to understand a child’s functioning and the influence of their own makeup, how they process information and deal with the environment, such as school, peers, and family dynamics. As opposed to a conventional testing and feedback session, TA is conducted over 8 to 10 sessions over 3 to 4 months, giving the assessor multiple opportunities to get to know the child and the family. We work together to test solutions for the family and the individual with the information gathered during the assessment. Several sessions are held with the child alone, parents alone, and together as a family. As well, a feedback session for the parents and a separate session with the child alone are scheduled. Parents have the option of adding their own assessments to help understand how their unique history interacts with the dynamics of the child and family unit. A letter is a formal document that outlines the answers to the assessment questions that were created at the beginning of the assessment.
